Timberwolves Come Up Empty Vs Honkers

Varsity vs Yuba City HS on 3/27/2010 7:00:00 PM
Posted Sunday, March 28, 2010 by Kurt Standen

The Timberwolves offense couldn’t find a way to manufacture runs in their opening game of the Surewest Tournament Saturday as they mustered just 5 hits over 7 innings and fell to the Yuba City Honkers 0-7.  Woodcreek had runners in scoring position twice.  Once in the 4th when both Jon Nutter and Justin Forsyth reached on walks, and once in the 6th when Nutter doubled with one out and Jay Standen singled with 2 outs but both threats were snuffed by the solid Yuba City defense.

On the defensive side Woodcreek showed lapses in the early going but Sam Anderson battled admirably through 4 innings eventually running out of gas in the 5th giving way to reliever Brandon Cain, who came through well,  to close the contest but the damage was done.

Next up for the T-Wolves is a double header on Monday as the tournament continues at Woodcreek.
