The opener of the Granite Bay series saw a tremendous offensive display in which the T-Wolves batsmen had the highly ranked Grizzlies reeling the entire game.
After giving up four unearned runs in the top of the first, the T-Wolves rallied back with five runs of their own and dismantled the Grizzlies from there on. Final score Woodcreek 18 Granite Bay 8.
The T-Wolves hammered the ball starting with a 5 run first inning burst which was punctuated by a Tyler Milani blast over the left field wall. In the third frame Woodcreek put up 6 more runs as the hit parade continued and the Grizzly starter was chased from the game. The Grizzly relief corps didn’t fare much better as four consecutive walks with the bases loaded brought in four of the six runs in the third inning and more relievers followed. Woodcreek added another tally in the fifth before Granite Bay struck for one in the bottom of the sixth. Ahead now by a 12-5 score, the T-Wolves put up 6 more in the final frame while the Grizzlies rallied for 3 in a last ditch effort to show some life.
Granite Bay mustered 8 runs on 10 hits of their own however the score was actually closer than the game appeared. While Woodcreek seemingly hit the ball at will, Brandon Cain, T-Wolves starter, painted the black through 6 2/3rd innings frustrating the powerful Grizzly bats and allowing only one earned run before giving way to Mark Smith who, in his first pitching appearance, did an able job of sealing the deal.
With too many offensive hi-lites too mention, the T-Wolves destroyed everything that came near the plate. In the end Woodcreek registered 22 hits doing damage from every part of the line-up as well as the pinch hit crew.
The highly ranked Granite Bay squad isn’t about to take this loss lightly as the series resumes at Woodcreek Wednesday and the T-Wolves seek to take yet another bite out of the Bears.
