Woodcreek defeated Del Oro in another terse extra inning game.
Del Oro jumped out on top 1-0 in the top of the first. Woodcreek didn't crack the run column until the bottom of the fourth tying the game 1-1. Del Oro got the lead right back in the top of the 5th. They were going to take that 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th.
With Woodcreek having plenty of opportunities but not capitalizing on them, there was a glimer of hope when AL was able to lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double. JP followed with a towering flyball to right field that the fielder could not find in the sun. The sunglasses on the top of his hat did him no good. This allowed AL to score and tie the game; however, like many innings before, Woodcreek failed to score more with runners on base and the game was headed to extra innings.
The top of the 8th inning didn't go well for Woodcreek. Del Oro sent eight players to the plate. Luckily for Woodcreek, they only allowed 2 runs. The lead off batter singled and moved up on a sacrafice bunt. The runner advanced futher on a passed ball. The next batter drove him in with a single. He moved to 2nd on a passed ball and took third on a walk by the next batter. The following batter also drew a walk. Woodcreek surrendered another single and Del Oro scored again. With bases loaded, Del Oro was looking to add to it's extra inning lead but Woodcreek tightened up and struck out the next batter and induced a fly out to center field by the next batter ending the Del Oro threat.
Heading into the bottom of the 8th inning, Woodcreek had it's work cut out for them, but was leading off with the top of its order. JW singled. He moved up when JG drew a four pitch walk. Both moved closer to scoring on a passed ball. AL battled 8 pitches after getting into a 1-2 hole and drew a walk and loaded the bases with no outs. JP singled scoring JW. That was followed by MO earning an infield single scoring JG and tying the game 4-4.
Bases were still loaded and no outs when JR battled 6 pitches to draw a walk and walk in AL for the winning run. It was a close call for JR as the umpire had a very high strike zone and JR let one go by that many felt had been a strike earlier in his at bat. But the umpire ruled it a ball and JR survived to draw the walk.
JcS started the game on the mound, allowing 2 runs but only one earned run, registering four strike outs whille giving up three walks in a no-decision. KP got Woodcreek out of a jam while JS also held Del Oro at bay in relief. JW got the win despite giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. The umpire didn't JW or any of the pitchers with his high strike zone.
